Emmanuel Smadja, CEO and co-founder of MPOWER Financing, calls himself an “Accidental Entrepreneur.” His “calling” is to provide no-cosigner loans and scholarships to remove the financial barriers facing the 1.7 million foreign students who attend the U.S. and Canadian higher education institutions each year.
This is not only good business. Its impact is felt by the students and economies around the world.
“If we want social breakthroughs, we need the best and brightest from around the planet,” Emmanuel Smadja
Manu explains further, “International Students are a vital part of the U.S. economy. We can think of them as an import of people, but in reality, they are an export of the higher education system. In the U.S. and Canada, they spend $61b on education and related expenses. That creates a lot of jobs, creates social and economic diversity, and global diversity on U.S. campuses. They contribute to the economy. If and when they go back to their home countries, they are political, diplomatic, and business ambassadors around the planet."
Each week, on the IronCEO RapidFire, I will try to find out what makes the entrepreneur tick and try to get you to sit in their seat.
